Bluebirds did not deign to build a nest in their nest box this year. I don’t know why. Sad face.
I haven’t seen any activity around it this season, but I decided to take a peak inside anyway today.
Surprise! This chickadee flew out.
It sat on a branch quite close and, after a few angry alarm calls, settled into a pleasant chirping. Another chickadee was on a higher branch, fluttering its wings.
In the house: nest!
This one-handed photo doesn’t do it justice, but it’s mossy and downy and decorated (scented?) with little bits of dead tree flower blossoms. Enchanting.
Is this a home-made nest or something purchased?

I bought the bluebird house last year and it was great for a pair of nesting bluebirds. This year chickadees made a nest inside instead. Oh well, they are cute! http://astore.amazon.com/eversohumble-20/detail/B00CFQX3TW
